I would like to accommodate them with <br />whatever bed space we have available. They agree to pay us $45 per day per prisoner. We will <br />need a portion of the fee to pay for the additional expenses associated with housing the inmates. <br />Any extraordinary services, such as medical, will be paid for by Broward County. <br />I am requesting the remainder of the $45 fee to be used to supplement our budget in other areas. <br />I am not requesting the Federal prisoner monies. This money will still be returned to the <br />Board of County Commissioners as in the past. <br />I would appreciate your consideration in allowing us to retain the monies received from the <br />Broward County Sheriff's Office; and, by way of this letter, I am requesting that this item be <br />placed on the Tuesday, August 20, 1996, agenda for the Commission's consideration. <br />Sincerely, <br />Gary C. Wheeler, Sheriff <br />GCW:mej <br />Sheriff Wheeler requested that the remainder of the $45 fee be <br />used to supplement his budget to purchase capital items for the <br />Sheriff's Department such as food carts, sterilizing machine, and <br />motor vehicles. It is not known how long this arrangement will <br />last nor the total amount of revenues it will bring in.
