O <br />• <br />LA <br />2.2.3 Director, 'Department of Emergency Services <br />The Director is responsible for the coordination, <br />development and maintenance of procedures to implement <br />the Indian Enver County Hazardous Materials Emergency <br />Plan consistent with existing conditions and procedures. <br />The Director will also be responsible for maintaining this <br />plan through annual revisions. <br />The Director, or hislher designee, will be responsible for <br />providing communications and other logistical support to <br />the public safety agencies involved in emergency operations <br />in response to a hazardous materials release. <br />The Director is responsible for early warning and notification <br />of the population within the area affected by the release of <br />hazardous materials. He/She is also responsible for the <br />notification of the County EOC staff, activating the ECIC, <br />and notifying all local governmental and non-governmental <br />agencies supporting emergency operations as appropriate to <br />the severity of the incident. <br />The Director is responsible for developing and implementing <br />a public education program designed to advise the public of <br />the risks associated with hazardous materials and <br />appropriate actions to take in the event of an emergency <br />involving the release of hazardous materials. The Director <br />is authorized to issue any public information statements <br />during a disaster period necessary to implement any <br />contingency plan previously approved by the Indian River <br />County Board of County Commissioners. <br />The Director is designated as the Community Emergency <br />Coordinator (CEC) for Indian River County. The Director will <br />coordinate overall emergency operations and support needs <br />with the State Division of Emergency Management, state <br />and federal support agencies, and the appropriate facility <br />owner/operator. <br />Indian fiver County Emergency Flan for Hazardous Materials Page 54 <br />
