Board of County Commissioners Meeting Minutes - Final April 9, 2024 <br />Year <br />Recommended Action: Recommend & Present <br />Chief Operating Officer of the Boys and Girls Club of Indian River County Laura <br />Luettger introduced the 2024 Youth of the Year, Angela Martinez Hernandez. Ms. <br />Luettger used a PowerPoint presentation to explain the rigorous competition that <br />candidates must undergo. Ms. Hernandez, a first -generation Mexican and the first in <br />her family to be born in the United States, presented her competition speech to the <br />Board. Chairman Adams wished her luck at the national level. <br />Presented by The Boys and Girls Club <br />5.C. 24-0341 Proclamation Designating April 21-27, 2024 as Crime Victims' Rights Week in Indian <br />River County <br />Recommended Action: Read & Present. <br />Attachments: Proclamation <br />Paul Zelno, a volunteer with the Indian River County Victims' Rights Coalition <br />(Coalition), was joined by Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers, Indian River <br />County Deputies, Director of Victims' Services Barbara Faulkner, and other <br />volunteers from the Coalition. Mr. Zelno stated the 19th Annual Memorial Vigil <br />would be held on April 27, 2024, at 9:00 AM. <br />Ms. Faulkner thanked the Board for the Proclamation; she also thanked the Sheriffs <br />office, and the Advocates at the State Attorney's office. She stated the Coalition had <br />been the most supportive in helping her office provide the financial needs and support <br />for victims in Indian River County. <br />Sheriff Flowers thanked the Board for taking the time to recognize the victims. <br />Vice Chairman Flescher and Mr. Zelno discussed the need for volunteers. <br />Read and presented by Vice Chairman Flescher <br />6.
