Mr. Hudson emphasized the need for the County's participation <br />in this endeavor for the benefit of the children of the community, <br />noting that only 20% of the Gifford students finish high school. <br />Mr. Hudson introduced those committee members who would be <br />participating in this morning's presentation: <br />Gifford Youth Activities Center Committee <br />Presentation <br />The following individuals will make a brief (3-4 minute) presentation <br />concerning the proposed Gifford Youth Activities Center: <br />A. Ronald Hudson <br />Victor Hart <br />Ernestine Williams <br />Dr. David Sullivan <br />Freddie Woolfork <br />John Dean <br />Rev. Andy Jefferson <br />Yolonda Blue <br />Lionel Darrisaw <br />Victor Hart, president of the Indian River County branch of <br />the NAACP and one of the founders of the Gifford Progressive Civic <br />League, spoke on community needs and the strides that have been <br />made in community improvements over the years. <br />Ernestine Williams, civic leader, resident for over 49 years, <br />noted that a lot of changes have been made, some slow and others <br />faster. Mrs. Williams presented the following results of a <br />community survey on the need for a community center. <br />Community Survey Results/Summary <br />The Gifford Community Survey was conducted during June of 1996 and these results <br />were presented on July 8, 1996. Following this summary is a copy of the survey <br />instrument utilized with percentages and responses filled in for quick evaluation. <br />Highlights of the survey included: <br />* 221 total respondents, of which <br />* 98% thought there was a need for a youth/family activity center. <br />31 <br />September 10, 1996 BOOK 99 Pnt 51 <br />
