PROCLAMATION - "THE COUNTY SWEEP DAY" <br />Chairman Adams read aloud the following proclamation and <br />presented it to Dane Roberts, president of Keep Indian River <br />Beautiful. <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, Keep America Beautiful was established in 1953 to develop more <br />responsible behavior toward the environment, and the Florida Solid Waste <br />Management Act of 1988 created Keep Florida Beautiful as an umbrella <br />organization for volunteer based community programs; and <br />WHEREAS, Keep Indian River Beautiful is one of over 500 national <br />affiliates of Keep America Beautiful and one of 29 certified and 13 pre - <br />certified State of Florida affiliates; and <br />WHEREAS,. Keep Indian River Beautiful is a working public/private' <br />partnership dedicated to grassroots community projects which protect the natural <br />beauty of Indian River County and enhance the area's quality of life; and <br />WHEREAS, Keep Indian River Beautiful is a non -prof#, environmental _ <br />organization committed to helping local area governments solve community solid <br />waste problems, and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors representing <br />government, business and industry, environmental, civic and professional <br />organizations; and <br />WHEREAS, Keep Indian River Beautiful is a county -wide system for <br />educational and promotional support for litter abatement, recycling, <br />beautification and other environmental programs; and <br />WHEREAS, programs implemented by Keep Indian River Beautiful qualify for <br />Department of Environmental Protection Grants and other federal and state grant <br />programs; and <br />WHEREAS, successful implementation of comprehensive solid waste programs <br />require cooperation of the City of Vero Beach, City of Sebastian, Town of Indian <br />River Shores, City of Fellsmere, Town of Orchid, Indian River County and the <br />various other governmental agencies; and <br />WHEREAS, implementation of successful, effective community enhancement <br />projects and educational programs require corporate, government and individual <br />donations and in-kind services; and <br />WHEREAS, The County Sweep is the inaugural program of Keep Indian River <br />Beautiful: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE INDIAN RIVER COUNTY BOARD OF <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS that Saturday, November 16, 1996 be designated as <br />"THE COUNTY SWEEP DAY" <br />in Indian River County, and the Board urges all residents and business community <br />members to endorse Keep Indian River Beautiful, support and participate in this <br />clean-up program. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />Fran B.
