Saturday, November 11th 1933, in special session, <br />with the following members of the Board.presents J.7.P.4amilton, Chairman; J. D. Yongue; <br />R. E. Mudge; John M. Knight and Edwin A Helseth. Also present were Miles warren,, Clerk <br />and William Frick, Sheriff, <br />The Chairman gnnounoed the meeting was called for the purpose of discussing with the <br />citizens of the County the question of placing tolis,on the respective draw bridges of <br />County. <br />Alex MacWilliams Mayor of Vero Beach, addressed the Board on the question of tolls <br />on the bridges. Dr. v►. H. Namisten then addressed the Board voicing his.,oppoeition to <br />a movement. <br />. F. Craves, addressed the Board respecting the aabasso Bridge and requested that <br />action on the question of tolls be not rescinded but suggested deferring action and asee <br />tain whether or not it will be possible for the State Road Department to take over the <br />'Bridge, <br />T. C. Thatcher, 'Secretary of Chamber of Commerce spoke with respect to the Vero Bridi <br />,onlyand the question of the State Road Department-takingA over this Bridge. <br />C. C. Cz?osby addressed the Board regarding all three bridges In the County and discus <br />j the question of trying to induce the State Road Department to take over all bridges. <br />II <br />A. B. Mi ohael, requested a financial statement of all three bridges which was given, <br />including balance cash and bonds and interest coupons outstanding and unpaid. <br />Attorney Chas A Mitchell advised that the 1931 session of the Legislature designated <br />1 <br />all 3 bridges as a part .of the State Highway system, and saggseted that a resolution be <br />a <br />adopted requesting the State Highway Department to take the she a��rer for maintenance. <br />The following resolution was introduced by Commissioner Knight, who moved its adoptic <br />Whereas, the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River Cqunty'is-ut the present <br />time maintaining the three bridges ;located in said, county and crossing the Indian River# <br />w <br />namely* those bridges located at Vero Beach, Winter Beach and Wabasso in said_Bounty; and <br />Whereas, said Board of County Commissioners rinds it virtually impossible to con-- <br />'tinue the proper maintenaaoe'of said bridges; and <br />Whereas, said bridges are used to a considerable extent by traffic of a general <br />nature and originating outside of Indiana.
