ON MOTION by Commissioner Tippin, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Ginn, the Board, by a 4-0 vote (Commissioner <br />Macht absent) unanimously adopted Resolution 97-117 to the <br />Constitutional Revision Commission of the State of Florida in <br />support of amending the homestead exemption law to exempt <br />one-half of the assessed value of property up to $50,000. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 97-117 <br />A RESOLUTION OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA, TO THE CONSTITUTIONAL REVISION <br />COMMISSION OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA IN <br />SUPPORT OF AMENDING THE HOMESTEAD <br />EXEMPTION LAW TO EXEMPT ONE-HALF OF THE <br />ASSESSED VALUE OF PROPERTY UP TO $50,000. <br />WHEREAS, the Constitutional Revision Commission has invited comments from <br />local governments and the public about ways to improve the Florida Constitution; and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County feels it would be fairer to all taxpayers and give <br />them more of an interest in the taxing policies of the County if the current $25,000 <br />Homestead Exemption Law were amended to exempt one-half of the assessed value of <br />property up to $50,000; and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County feels that this constitutional revision would <br />make the burden of paying property taxes more equitable for its citizens and taxpayers; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board urges the <br />Constitutional Revision Commission to recommend that the state constitution be <br />amended to change the Homestead Exemption provision. <br />The resolution was moved for adoption by Commissioner Tippin, and the motion <br />was seconded by Commissioner Ginn, and, upon being put to a vote, the vote was as <br />follows: <br />Chairman Carolyn K. Eggert <br />Aye <br />Vice Chairman John W. Tippin <br />Aye <br />Commissioner Kenneth R. Macht <br />Absent <br />Commissioner Caroline D. Ginn <br />Aye <br />Commissioner Fran B.
