7.C. Proclamation Designating 1998 as the Year of'the Ocean <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING 1998 AS <br />THE YEAR OF THE OCEAN <br />WHEREAS, Florida is the only state in the contiguous United Staten that is bordered on three <br />sides by seas, with 8,426 miles of continuous tidal shoreline; and <br />WHEREAS, the United Nations has declared 1998 as the Internadonal Year of the Ocean; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the United States Senate has called for the development of a coordinated, <br />comprehensive and long-range national policy with respect to ocean and coastal activities bypassing <br />the Oceans Act of 1997; and <br />WHEREAS, coastal and ocean resources are vital to Florida's quality of life and economic <br />vitality and in particular, Indian River County's quality of life; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuent to Article 4 Section 7 of the Florida Constitution, it shall be the policy <br />of the state to conserve and protect its natural resources and scenic beauty: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLARAED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that 1998 be designated as the <br />YEAR OF THE OCEAN <br />in Indian River County, and the Board fiutha encourages all citizens of this county to utilize our <br />ocean resources in a prudent manner, while preserving this great treasure for future generations to <br />enjoy. <br />Dated this 28 day of April, 1998. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY CONK WSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />..%iii/. <br />isrWX .
