If it is overwhelming that the community does not want it, it will not be done. <br />Commissioner Stanbridge had been in the audience at the meeting and understood that <br />the process could be stopped "when the time came"; she asserted "this is the time." <br />Director Keating understood and added that the process can be stopped without <br />getting the information or the information can be gathered and determine if there will be a <br />problem, if there are ways to correct it, and then make a decision. <br />Commissioner Adams wanted to know what kind of information DOT is looking for, <br />and Director Keating advised that they are taking the information the County has provided <br />and trying to get more detail and better updated information for the particular area. <br />Chairman Tippin asked if DOT takes such things as historical districts into <br />consideration. <br />Director Keating affirmed that they do, that could be a reason for not widening. He <br />added that it is the consultant's responsibility to identify alternatives. Sebastian is different <br />from Vero Beach in that it does not have a grid system with alternative ways to travel. DOT <br />will be at the MPO meeting tomorrow to present their 5 -year work program, so they will be <br />able to answer some questions. Director Keating confirmed for Commissioner Ginn that all <br />of Indian River County is in District 4 and has all the same DOT staff. <br />It was Commissioner Ginn's opinion that DOT staff for District 4 did not have a good <br />record in keeping their word, and will so tell them at tomorrow's meeting. <br />MOTION WAS AMENDED by Commissioner Adams to have <br />the County Commission present a letter tomorrow to the DOT <br />representatives that we are very concerned about the 6-laning of <br />US# 1 in Sebastian and would request that they not look at it <br />again for 10 years. Amendment was agreed to by the SECOND. <br />Director Keating wanted to point out that from time of project conception it usually <br />takes 10-15 years to build it because of the processes a project has to go through. <br />Commissioner Adams thought the funny thing about that is the screaming need for <br />improving SR60 and US 192, where there seems to be no headway, compared to this project, <br />which is not wanted. <br />December 8, 1998 <br />38 <br />0 is <br />
