BOOK <br />The Chairman CALLED THE QUESTION and the motion <br />carried unanimously. (Resolution No. 98-147 adopted, as <br />amended, electing to use the Uniform Method of Collecting <br />non -ad valorem special assessments levied against certain <br />property located along the Atlantic Ocean in Indian River <br />County; stating the need for such levy; providing for the mailing <br />of this resolution; and providing for an effective date. <br />Upon County Attorney Vitunac's inquiry concerning funding Property Appraiser <br />David Nolte's computer programming modification, the consensus of the Board was that Mr. <br />Nolte have a more thorough study of the cost and that could be handled in the future. <br />Commissioner Ginn asked if the Board had obligated itself to a workshop on this <br />matter and Chairman Tippin replied that he had said "it sounded like a nice idea". <br />RESOLUTION NO. 98- 14 7 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA ELECTING TO USE THE UNIFORM METHOD <br />OF COLLECTING NON -AD VALOREM SPECIAL <br />ASSESSMENTS LEVIED AGAINST CERTAIN PROPERTY <br />LOCATED ALONG THE ATLANTIC OCEAN IN INDIAN <br />RIVER COUNTY; STATING A NEED FOR SUCH LEVY; <br />PROVIDING FOR THE MAILING OF THIS RESOLUTION; <br />AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners (the "Board") of Indian River <br />County, Florida (the "County") is contemplating the imposition of non -ad valorem special <br />assessments in coastal areas of Indian River County (including both incorporated and <br />unincorporated areas) to fund the storm protection benefits provided by the County's <br />proposed beach nourishment program; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board intends to use the uniform method for collecting non -ad <br />valorem special assessments, as authorized by section 197.3632, Florida Statutes, as <br />amended, to fund the storm protection benefits provided by the County's proposed beach <br />nourishment program because the uniform method will allow such special assessments to be <br />collected annually commencing with the ad valorem tax bill to be mailed in November 1999, <br />in the same manner as provided for ad valorem taxes; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board held a duly advertised public hearing prior to the adoption <br />of this Resolution, proof of publication of such hearing being attached hereto as Appendix <br />B; <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMIVHSSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />DECEMBER 229 1998 <br />38 <br />
