Proclamation Desi nnaadng May 2-8.1999 as Tourism Week <br />Chairman Macht read the following and presented it to Chamber of Commerce <br />representative Lori Burns who thanked the Board for the recognition. <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING MAY 2-8,1999 <br />AS TOURISM WEEK IN INDIAN <br />RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />WHEREAS, the travel and tourism industry supports the vital interests of Indian River County, <br />contributing to our employment, economic prosperity, international trade and relations, peace, understanding <br />and goodwill; and <br />WHEREAS, travel and tourism ranks as one of Indian River County's largest industries in terns of <br />revenues generated; and <br />WHEREAS, hundreds of thousands of travelers visiting Indian River County contributed over $33 <br />million to the economy last year, generating an economic impact of $200,016,000; and <br />WHEREAS, those travelers provided jobs for 320/6 of the citizens of Indian River County;'and <br />WHEREAS, as people throughout the world become more aware of the outstanding cultural and <br />recreational resources available in Indian River County, travel and tourism will become an increasingly <br />important aspect in the lives of our citizens; and <br />WHEREAS, given these laudable contributions to the economic, social and cultural well-being of the <br />citizens of Indian River County, it is fitting that we recognize the importance of travel and tourism: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the week of May 2-8,1999 be designated as <br />TOURISM WEEK <br />in Indian River County, and the Board urges all citizens of this county to observe this week with appropriate <br />ceremonies and activities. <br />Adopted this 27 day of April, 1999. <br />APRIL 27, 1999 <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />enneth R.
