He did not believe the cost would go too high, the most cost would <br />be for clearing. <br />Commissioner Stanbridge inquired whether this would require a consultant or if the <br />ISTEA enhancements could be handled by Public Works, and Community Development <br />Director Bob Keating reported that Public Works planned to do all the design work and <br />manage the construction work because they are now LAP (Local Assistance Program) <br />certified. She pointed out the study was done by a consultant and the projected prices are <br />much higher than similar work performed by staff. The Board will be able to control the <br />actual implementation and cost. <br />Commissioner Ginn wanted the parking area to be kept natural, and Director Keating <br />advised they are looking for alternatives to asphalt for the surface treatment of the parking <br />area. Commissioner Ginn wanted staffto track the costs on this and Director Keating agreed <br />it would be done. <br />Chairman Macht commented that this was his committee (Jungle Trail Conservation <br />Area Advisory Committee) and approval today would cause it to sunset. He thanked the <br />committee members for their hard work and a great job in refining the consultant's report. <br />His main point was that the committee should continue in some form and suggested the <br />Board re-formulate the committee in whatever structure they see fit and bring a <br />recommendation to the Board for approval. Further he suggested that Commissioner <br />Stanbridge chair the committee if she would agree. <br />Commissioner Ginn thought it an excellent suggestion and Commissioner Stanbridge <br />thought the committee should track all preservation areas and not isolate one area from the <br />others. <br />Chairman Macht recommended Commissioner Stanbridge include that in the <br />committee's tasks. <br />ON MOTION by Vice Chairman Adams, SECONDED BY <br />Commissioner Stanbridge, the Board unanimously approved the <br />final draft Jungle Trail Conservation Area Management Plan for <br />transmittal to the State Land Acquisition and Management <br />Advisory Council (LAMAC) for State approval, and directed <br />that the final design of the beach route go before the Parks and <br />Recreation Committee with the caveat that the County reserves <br />MAY 119 1999 <br />59 <br />BOOK i0o I'o-1Gt <br />
