The <br />comic Development Division shall determine the methods to be used to promote the growth of <br />industries and identify these methods in its annual marketing plan. The results will be <br />;rated to the Economic Development Council on a quarterly basis. <br />Policy t _5: The county shall on a bi-annual basis support the Indian River County Chamber of <br />Commerce in surveying targeted businesses having more than ten employees. The purpose of the <br />survey is to identify opportunities and problems associated with businesses, to identify businesses <br />willing to expand, and to identify businesses considering relocation. The county's contribution shall <br />involve financial support. The Chamber of Commerce shall provide a report to the Economic <br />Development Council on an annual basis, detailing the results of the survey. <br />Proposed Action: REVISE POLICY <br />On an annual basis, the Economic Development Division of the Indian River County Chamber of <br />Commerce shall survey local businesses that are included in the county's targeted industries list and <br />have more than ten employees. The purpose of the survey is to identify opportunities and problems <br />associated with local businesses, the type of job training and assistance needed by businesses, <br />businesses willing to expand, businesses considering relocation, and linked businesses. The <br />Economic Development Division shall report the survey results to the Economic Development <br />Council at the first meeting of each calender year. <br />Policy 1.6: The county, as part of setting its list of target industries, shall target different <br />employment sectors whose seasons supplement the seasons of the citrus industry and tourist <br />industry. <br />Posed Action: DELETE POLICY <br />county should be targeting industries that create full-time employment. Staff were not able to identify any such industries. <br />Policy 1.7: The Indian River County Chamber of Commerce and its Economic Development <br />Division shall maintain contact with various businesses on a continuing basis and provide a quarterly <br />report to the Economic Development Council, indicating the number of contacts, and the number <br />of possible jobs, as well as results, problems, solutions and other pertinent information. <br />Proposed Action: REVISE POLICY <br />The Economic Development Division of the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce shall <br />continue to contact businesses, as identified in its marketing plan, to encourage those businesses to <br />consider Indian River County as a possible location. The county's list of targeted industries shall <br />be the Economic Development Division's guide for the type of businesses to contact. On a quarterly <br />basis, the Economic Development Director of the Chamber of Commerce shall report to the <br />Economic Development Council the number of businesses that were contacted, the type o <br />businesses that were contacted, the number of persons em loved by each of the businesses. and the <br />result or actions taken from those contacts. <br />,&: The county shall continue a relationship with the Jobs and Education I <br />and Indian River Community College for quick response to Indian River County <br />training for existing and prospective employees. <br />Proposed Action: REVISE POLICY <br />The county and the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce shall continue to inform existing <br />and relocating businesses of training programs that are offered by the Indian River Community <br />College, the Jobs and Education Partnership Program, and local high schools. Representatives from <br />these institutions shall be invited to provide an annual report to the Economic Development Council <br />summarizing what type of training assistance was provided to local businesses. <br />MAY 189 1999 <br />
