Pierce to Daytona Beach. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 99-1 14 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY REQUESTING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT <br />OF TRANSPORTATION TO INITIATE THE 6-LANING OF I-95 FROM FT. <br />PIERCE TO DAYTONA BEACH. <br />WHEREAS, Interstate 95 between Ft. Pierce and Daytona Beach is a Florida Intrastate <br />Highway System (FIRS) roadway currently operating as 4 lane facility, and <br />WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is responsible for <br />programming improvements to the FIRS; and <br />WHEREAS, the FDOT's current FIHS Needs Plan identifies the need to widen I-95 <br />between Ft. Pierce and Daytona Beach from 4 lanes to 6 lanes, and <br />WHEREAS, I-95 is a principal evacuation route for the east central Florida area; and <br />WHEREAS, I-95 experienced Hurricane Floyd evacuation problems, including traffic <br />queues and delays on the segment between Ft.
