BOOK <br />RESOLUTION NO. 20007 031 <br />WHEREAS, NASA, in a partnership with the State of Florida, plans to <br />develop Space Station Commerce Park at Kennedy Space Center that will <br />service federal, industrial, academic, and international space programs; and <br />WHEREAS, NASA, and the State of Florida plan to co -invest in a $30 <br />million research and development facility for NASA, university, and commercial <br />space activities called the Space Experiment Research & Processing Laboratory <br />(SERPL) which will include laboratories for the development and processing of <br />life sciences and biotechnology experiments that will fly aboard the Space <br />Station, Space Shuttle, and future vehicles like VentureStar, and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed State investment for SERPL will provide a <br />multi-user facility for Florida universities and colleges which will allow the <br />necessary academic support to NASA, military and commercial space programs; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, SERPL will be a laboratory facility that will host International <br />Space Station experiment processing, and life science research in areas such as <br />microgravity, biomedicine, space agriculture and biotechnology. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that: <br />1. They support the NASA and State of Florida Partnership to fund, <br />develop and operate the Space Experiment Research and Processing <br />Laboratory at Kennedy Space Center, Florida; and <br />2.
