PUBLIC DISCUSSION ITEM — BIBBLE IRVIN — ESCARPMENTS <br />RESULTING FROM SAND DREDGING PROJECTS IN FLORIDA — <br />REQUEST FOR A BEACH MEETING <br />Bibble Irvin was disappointed he had no response from the Board after his <br />presentation two weeks prior. His focus at this meeting was the escarpments that occur with <br />sand dredging. He showed a photograph of a 9 -foot escarpment on the beach in St. Lucie <br />County which he stated was a result of the sand dredging. He believed the Commissioners <br />have been misled that sand dredging was a cure for beach erosion. He showed a photograph <br />of Humiston Beach showing a 6 -foot escarpment behind the Boardwalk. He stated that sand <br />dredging would increase the depth of the escarpment and create a dangerous situation. He <br />displayed photographs of Ft. Pierce beaches which he believed showed there was no <br />longevity to the increased beach as a result of sand pumping. He believed that sand <br />replacement resulted in much less escarpment. He wished there would be a Beach and Shore <br />Preservation Advisory Committee meeting. He thought the Board should put to rest the sand <br />dredging and urged them to investigate sand placement as he believed we could keep the <br />August 15, 2000 <br />GK 1 14 PG 598 <br />
