r� <br />L <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER, 2000, AS <br />NATIONAL BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH <br />AND THE FIRST TUESDAY IN OCTOBER AS <br />"TELL -A -FRIEND -TUESDAY" <br />IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />WHEREAS, every woman is at risk for breast cancer, and one in every nine women will be <br />diagnosed with breast cancer sometime during her lifetime; and <br />WHEREAS, most breast cancers are found in women with none of the so-called "risk <br />factors"; and <br />WHEREAS, early detection could save a life; and <br />WHEREAS, many women still do not know that mammography is the best way to find <br />breast cancer early, when it is easier to treat, and more likely to be cured; and <br />WHEREAS, many women still do not know that breast cancer is 97 percent curable when <br />detected early; and <br />WHEREAS, the action women need to take every year to overcome their fear of breast <br />cancer is to get a mammogram; and <br />WHEREAS, `Fell -A -Friend Tuesday" is the American Cancer Society's signature breast <br />cancer awareness event designed to reach a critical mass of women on one day with the message of <br />the importance of regular mammography for the early detection of breast cancer; and <br />�, "Tell -A Friend Tuesday" is observed on the first Tuesday of October, during <br />National Breast Cancer Awareness Month; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that October is declared <br />BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH <br />in Indian River County Florida; and <br />IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED THAT Tuesday, October 3, 2000, is declared "Tell -A - <br />Friend Tuesday" in Indian River County, Florida <br />Adopted this 19th day of September, 2000. <br />SEPTEMBER 19, 2000 <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSION <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />By: (6)a"A, 6 <br />Fran B.
