r <br />Gerry Koziel of the Cancer Society thanked the Board for their support on behalf of <br />the Cancer Society and stated that this program has been extremely successful in reaching <br />hundreds of thousands of women. <br />Chairman Adams reminded everyone that breast cancer is not just a women's disease. <br />S.B. PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER AS NATIONAL <br />ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTHIIV INDIANRIVER COUNTY <br />The Chairman presented the following Proclamation to Edgar Holtz of the Cultural <br />Council: <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER AS <br />NATIONAL ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTH <br />WHEREAS, the arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives of all Americans; and <br />WHEREAS, it is through the preservation of art, literature, music, crafts and philosophy that we <br />pass our most noble Ideas and beliefs from generation to generation; and <br />WHEREAS, the arts and humanities affect every aspect of life in America today including the <br />economy, social problem solving, job creation, education, creativity and community livability; and <br />WHEREAS, a coalition of more than 50 national arts and humanities groups representing over <br />23,000 cultural organizations and institutions comprise the National Cultural Alliance, which works to <br />increase public awareness and understanding of, and participation in, the humanities and the arts; and <br />WHEREAS, the Cultural Council of Indian River County, designated as the County's Local Arts <br />Agency, was formed to nurture a cooperative environment In which cultural organizations and individuals <br />may thrive and thereby enrich the quality of life in Indian River County for all residents and visitors; and <br />WHEREAS, the nation's 23,000 cultural organizations, the National Endowment for the Arts, the <br />National Endowment for the Humanities, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the nation's 3,800 <br />local arts agencies, the arts and humanities councils of the 56 states and U.S. jurisdictions, and the <br />President of the United States will be encouraged to participate in the celebration; and <br />SEPTEMBER 19, 2000 <br />Bji115PG166 <br />-4- <br />0 <br />L <br />
