City Hall. <br />,, <br />It was ordered the sum of $25.00 be paid from the General Revenue Fund to the State <br />;!Association of County Commissioners as requested in their letter of September 26, 1944 as,aIcon <br />tribution or extra dues for the purposes outlined in said letter. <br />Verdict of the Coroner's Jury as to the death of Boby Rivenbark was received and <br />ordered filed by the Clerk. <br />j' Mr. W. H. Surrency appeared before the Board with regard to vacating a portion of <br />the road going through hi.e pasture which is located approximately 35 miles Northwest of hare. <br />The Board advised Mr.. Surreney that they would give consideration to his request in order to <br />ii determine what could be done in the matter. <br />Mr. Harry W. Damerow and Walter S. Buckingham representing the American Legion ap- <br />Peered before the Board and presented the following resolution: <br />RESOLUTION <br />�i WHEREAS, many negro citizens of Indian River. County are serving with the Armed Force <br />of the United States in the present war and the negro citizens of this county who are civilians'' <br />have extended full cooperation in the war effort; and, <br />WHEREAS, Felix Poppell Post No. 39 of the American Legion,and the members thereof <br />a recognize the contribution made to the war effort by the citizens mentioned and in the spirit <br />of true Americanism desire to evidence such recognition not alone in words but also by dead; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, the negro citizens of.Indian River County are an important part of the <br />economic life of the County and their labor and effort is a valuable contribution to the growth' <br />u <br />and development of the County; and, <br />l ih'HEREAS, the negro citizens of this.County are entitled to proper and sanitary hour <br />es and to the facilities generally which contribute to health, happiness and well being; and, <br />WHEREAS, this fact is recognized in the Act of Congress commonly known as the "G.I. <br />Bill", which affords to the members of the Armed Forces an opportunity to secure homes for them <br />-selves as well as additional benefits; and, <br />q <br />WHEREAS, Felix Poppell Post No. 39 of the American Legion desires to actively coo- <br />perate in making available the full benefits of this Bill to all persons entitled thereto in - <br />eluding the negro members of the ,Armed Forces and with resulting :benefit not only to such named <br />individuals but to the entire citizenship of this County; therefore, <br />BE IT RES01VED that Felix Poppell Post No. 39 of the.American Legion does herewith <br />�P request the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County and such other organizations, <br />Ri <br />r� <br />U <br />1 <br />r1 <br />U <br />1 <br />0 <br />1 <br />1 <br />
