D. Embankment - General Requirements for Embankment Materials: The following is <br />added after the first paragraph of Subarticle 120-7.2: <br />Roadway Design Standard Index No. 505, Embankment Utilization Details is modified <br />by the addition of the following: <br />Any stratum or stockpile or soil which contains obvious pockets of highly organic <br />material may be designated as muck or unsuitable for construction of subgrade by the <br />Owner. <br />Backfill material containing more than 2.0% by weight of organic material, as <br />determined by FM 1-T 267 and by averaging the test results for three randomly <br />selected samples from each stratum or stockpile of a particular material, shall not be <br />used in construction of the reinforced volume. If an individual test value of the three <br />samples exceeds 3.0%, the stratum or stockpile will not be suitable for construction of <br />the reinforced volume. <br />No A-8 material permitted in embankment. <br />E. Payment shall be made under: <br />Bid Item No. 6 — Earthwork (To Include Excavation, Embankment, and Grading) — <br />Per Lump Sum <br />SECTION -160 - STABILIZING <br />A. Section 160 is modified by the addition of the following: <br />"The stabilization thickness indicated on plans shall be considered a minimum <br />thickness. Thickness will vary to conform to the lines, and grades shown in the plans." <br />Minimum L.B.R. = 40 - No under -tolerance. <br />B. Payment shall be made under: <br />Bid Item No. 7 - Type B Stabilization LBR40 (6") - Per Square Yard <br />SECTION - 283 — RECLAIMED ASPHALT PAVEMENT BASE <br />A. Description <br />Construct a base course composed of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) material. Use <br />RAP material as a base course only on non -limited access paved shoulders, shared use <br />paths, or other non -traffic bearing applications. <br />B. Materials <br />Obtain the RAP material by either milling or crushing an existing asphalt pavement. <br />Material that passes a 5/8" sieve and is graded uniformly down to dust shall be used. <br />The following procedure will be used for approval: <br />1. Conduct a minimum of six extraction gradation analyses of the RAP material. Take <br />samples at random locations in the stockpile. The average asphalt cement content <br />of the six stockpile samples must be 4% or greater with no individual result below 3- <br />1/2%. <br />2. Request the Engineer to make a visual inspection of the stockpile of RAP material. <br />Based on this visual inspection of the stockpiled material and the results of the <br />01025-25 Technical Specifications <br />F:\Public Works\ENGINEERING DIVISION PROJECTS\1413-Martin Luther King Walking Trail\Admin\bid documents\Master Contract <br />Documents\Technical Specifications.doc <br />
