5. • <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING MAY 1, 2015, AS LAW DAY <br />WHEREAS, Law Day is an occasion of public acknowledgement of our Nation's and Florida's heritage <br />of justice, liberty, and equality under the law; and <br />WHEREAS, Law Day has been annually proclaimed by the President of the United States since <br />Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed the first Law Day on May 1, 1958; and <br />WHEREAS, the United States Congress in 1961 encoded the presidential practice into law, statutorily <br />designating May 1 as Law Day; and <br />WHEREAS, the year 2015 marks the 800th anniversary of a milestone in legal history, the sealing of <br />Magna Carta at Runnymede, England, in 1215; and <br />WHEREAS, the Founders of our Nation drew upon the principles of Magna Carta in drafting our <br />cherished documents of liberty, including the Declaration of Independence, United States Constitution, and <br />the Bill of Rights; and <br />WHEREAS, Magna Carta has become one of the world's most enduring symbols of liberty under law; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Magna Carta continues to be a source of inspiration in the international struggle to <br />advance human rights; and <br />WHEREAS, promoting public understanding of the roots of our freedom is an important component in <br />the civic education of the citizens of the United States and of the State of Florida; and <br />WHEREAS, the American Bar Association has identified the 2015 Law Day theme as "Magna Carta: <br />Symbol of Freedom Under Law"; and <br />WHEREAS, Law Day, MAY 1, 2015, will be commemorated in the State of Florida with a free Ask -A - <br />Lawyer program, Lawyers in the Classrooms, and a breakfast honoring judges and their staff. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that May 1, 2015, be designated as Law Day in Indian River County. <br />Adopted this 21st day of April, 2015. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />Wesley S.
