I <br />TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 69 1949. <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County met at the Court House in <br />a regular meeting at 1Os00 o'clock A. M., Tuesday, September 6, 19499 with the following <br />Tom N. Stewart and <br />members presents W. C. Graves, Jr., Chairman;/Aubrey L. Waddell,/H. C. Watts. Also <br />present were Sherman N. Smith, Jr., Attorney from the firm of Mitchell, Smith & Mitchell; <br />E. E. Carter, Road and Bridge Superintendent; L. B. O'Steen; Sheriff; and Douglas Baker, <br />Clerk. <br />The minutes of the previous meetings were read and approved on motion of Commissioner <br />Stewart seconded by Commissioner Waddell and carried. <br />Clerk Baker was instructed to request a report from the Sete Board of Health as <br />to sums expended in Indian River County for the Indian River County Health Unit. <br />Mrs, Kay Chastian appeared before the Board requesting assistance in the payment <br />of medicines and personal servItces furnished and rendered by Dr. P. T. McClellan for her <br />child in the sum of $116.43. The Board approved payment of 50% of this amount. <br />M. A. Boudet, County Agent, appeared before the Board and submitted a report of <br />his activities for the month of August. Said report was ordered filed with the Clerk. <br />The Board agreed to expend not to exceed the sum of $250.00 toward the purchase of <br />a two way radio to be placed on the Deputy Sheriff's car at Fellsmere in case of storm, <br />hurricane, and/or other emergencies. This action was taken on motion of Commissioner <br />Stewart seconded by Commissioner Waddell and carried. <br />County Commissioner's bond for Sylvester Woods, District No. 2, in the sum of <br />$29000.00 with U. S. Fidelity and Guaranty Company as sure*y was approved. <br />Commissioner Watts introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption as <br />follows, to -wits <br />R E S O L U T I O N <br />WHEREAS' the recent hurricane and attendant winds and rain which struck this County <br />on August 26, 19499 created an emergency situation in this County primarily because of the <br />flood waters now existing; and, <br />WHEREAS, the marsh lands to the West of the Fellsmere Drainage District in this <br />County are now flooded and constitute an immediate hazard and danger to the West dikeline of <br />said Drainage District; and, <br />WHEREAS, the City of Fellsmere in this County and its surrounding area has been in <br />flood condition since said hurrincane, which flood w4ters now constitute an immediate health <br />menace to the citizens of that City and surrounding area; and, <br />are <br />WHEREAS, dikes In the Southwest corner of Indian River Farms Drainage District/now <br />endangered by said flood waters; and, <br />WHEREAS, it is common knowledge in this area that the storm and flood season is <br />just beginning and a correction of the existing situations as above set forth must immediately <br />be made upon an emergency basis to prevent irreparable damage to the entire economic structure <br />of this County; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida, <br />that this Board does herewith request the District Engineer of the Corps of Engineers of the <br />Department of the Army of the United States of Americanto immediately provide funds, furnish <br />equipment and carry out the works necessary in order to correct the situations herein noted ick[ <br />which, in the 0 o of this Board, would consist of the followings <br />0 <br />1 <br />0 <br />1 <br />0 <br />1 <br />1 <br />0 <br />
