SPECIAL DISTRICTS AND BOARDS
B. Solid Waste Disposal District
1:24 p.m. 1. Indian River County Former Correctional Institution Land
(memorandum dated June 25, 2015) 163-167
Director of Utility Services Vincent Burke provided background
on the Indian River County former Correctional Institute site,
and informed the Board that the Division of State Lands was not
interested in pursuing a swap of the four County owned parcels,
and would not accept the County's offer of $450,000. He said
there has since been a sealed bid of $850,000 from Algae to
Omega, and the staff of the Division of Public Lands would be
recommending to their Board on August 5, 2015, to move forward
with the sealed bid as submitted.
Deputy County Attorney William DeBraal revealed that there
were three bids submitted: $850,000, $750,000, and the low bid of
$740,000, which were far in excess of what the County was willing
to pay for the property. He conveyed that Algae to Omega would
be using some of the existing buildings; therefore their demolition
costs would be much less than the County's would have been. He
said this would be heard by Governor Scott and the Cabinet at the
Solid Waste Disposal District Page 1
July 7,2015
