<br />The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County met at the Court House
<br />in regular adjourned meeting at 10:00 o'clock A. M., Tuesday, January 4, 1952, with the follow-
<br />ing members present: Commissioners W. C. Graves, Jr., Aubrey L. Waddell, H. C. Watts, and J. J.,
<br />P. Hamilton. Also present were Allison Warren, newly appointed Commissioner from District #5 in
<br />place of Tom N. Stewart, who stated that he had not as yet received his Commission; L. B. O'Steen,
<br />Sheriff; E. E. Carter, Road and Bridge Superintendent; S. N. Smith, Jr., Attorney; and Douglas
<br />Baker, Clerk.
<br />Sherman N. Smith, Jr. called the meeting to order and, there being no old business
<br />to be considered at this time, the Board then proceded in the order of new business. On motion
<br />of Commissioner Hamilton, seconded by Commissioner Waddell and unanimously carried, the Board
<br />elected W. C. Graves, Jr. as Chairman for the ensuing year.
<br />Chairman Graves then took over the Chair. The next order of business was to elect
<br />a Chairman pro tem, and on motion of Commissioner Hamilton, seconded by Commissioner Watts and •
<br />unanimously carried, Commissioner Waddell was elected to serve as Chairman pro tem for the ensu-
<br />ing year.
<br />On motion of Commissioner Waddell, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton and unani-
<br />mously carried, all County employees and officers were re-employed, salaries remaining the same
<br />as follows:

<br />of December 4, 1951, a Committee consisting of Commissioner Waddell,
<br />E. E. Carter, Road and Bridge
<br />Superintendent, and S. N. Smith, Jr.,
<br />Attorney, was instructed to
<br />investigate the Surrency - Whittier Road problem and bring in a recommendation
<br />to be acted upon
<br />at the next regular meeting of this Board. Sherman N. Smith, Jr.,
<br />speaking for the Committee,
<br />•
<br />stated the Committee had met with Mr. Whittier and Mr. Surrency and that no agreement could be
<br />reached and that it was his opinion the requested right of way for Mr. and Mrs. Whittier, through
<br />the lands.of Mr. Surrency was a matter which should be left to the parties involved and that the,
<br />County would not be justified in the expenditure of public funds in providing a right of way for,
<br />�i
<br />Mr. and Mrs. Whittier.
