• • <br />Valerie Smith of Indian River County Mental Health thanked the Board for making the <br />public aware of the problem and thanked the community for its support with Mental Health <br />programs such as the "Drop -In" Center on 14th Avenue. <br />Roy Anderson, Executive Director of the Drop -In Center, thanked the Board and asked <br />the community to remember all those persons still suffering in jails and hospitals, as well as the <br />people who have lost their lives to drug addition and suicide. He invited everyone to attend a <br />ceremony to be held October 6, 2002 on Royal Palm Pointe, sponsored by the National Alliance <br />for the Mentally Ill. <br />(.'_ PROCLAMATION 1)F.,4IGNATING TNF MONTAOF OCTORF.R, 2002, AS NATIONAL <br />ARTA ANI) T-UJMANITIF,S MQNTH <br />Commissioner Macht presented the following Proclamation: <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER, 2002, AS <br />NATIONAL ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTH <br />WHEREAS, the month of October has been recognized as National Arts and Humanities <br />Month by thousands of arts and cultural organizations, communities and states across the <br />nation, as well as by the White House and Congress for several years; and <br />WHEREAS, the arts and humanities embody much of the accumulated wisdom, intellect <br />and imagination of humankind and enhance and enrich the lives of every American; and <br />WHEREAS, arts education research findings suggest the arts help close the achievement <br />gap, especially among disadvantaged youth.
