WHEREAS, the nonprofit arts industry also strengthens our economy by generating $134 <br />billion in economic activity annually and by supporting the full-time equivalent of 4.85 million <br />jobs; and <br />WHEREAS, Americans for the Arts, the national coordinator of National Arts and <br />Humanities Month, has focused the theme of this year's celebration on arts education, and has <br />launched a multi-year national public awareness campaign this year with the Advertising Council <br />entitled — Art. Ask for More — motivating parents and decision makers to get more arts <br />education programs into children's lives at school and throughout the community. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, 8E IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the month of October, 2002, be <br />designated as <br />NATIONAL ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTH <br />and the Board calls upon its citizens to celebrate and promote the arts and culture in our nation, <br />and to specifically encourage the greater participation of children in educational programs and <br />activities in the arts and humanities. <br />Adopted this 1st day of October, 2002. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />Ruth M. Stanbridge, Cha' an <br />Commissioner Macht asked everyone to pay special attention to the art in the halls of the <br />Administration Building which is executed by children annually entertained by this organization <br />at the Art Camp for at -risk children and with their follow-up scholarships. <br />Mary Knapp, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cultural Council, thanked the <br />Board on behalf of all the member organizations for their ongoing support. She also mentioned a <br />recent economic impact study and its interesting results in connection with the arts. <br />Mary Jayne Kelly, Executive Director of the Cultural Council, noted that the results of <br />that economic study showed that the arts directly result in $21,000,000 spent in Indian River <br />County. <br />Commissioner Macht agreed that the arts have quite an economic impact in the County <br />and support a good number of local fobs. <br />OCTOBER 1, 2002 6 <br />
