BACKGROUND: <br />Indian River County currently has a grant from the Florida Department of State, Division of <br />Historical Resources for the old Fellsmere School. The amount of the grant is for S250,000 <br />Currently, asbestos removal is underway at the school and the cost of that removal will be <br />funded through that particular grant. <br />In order to undertake any work, permission must be obtained from the Division of Historical <br />Resources to insure that the proposed work is in keeping with the goal of historical rehabilitation <br />We requested and received that approval for the division. At the same time, I requested to have <br />the work qualify for grant funding so that the cost of the asbestos removal can qualify for <br />payment from the grant funds. <br />Attached is a cover letter from Mr. Brian Barton, a Historic Preservation Planner with the <br />Division of Historical Resources conveying Amendment Number One to the Historic <br />Preservation Award Agree'ent for Grant SC250. That amendment provides for the inclusion of <br />Asbestos abatement as authorized project work. <br />RE COMri IENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that the Board approve the grant amendment and authorize the Chairman to <br />execute the amendment. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Adams, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Macht, the Board, by a 4-0 vote (Chairman <br />Stanbridge absent) unanimously approved the grant amendment <br />and authorized the Chairman to execute same, as recommended by <br />staff. <br />AMENDMENT IS ON FILE IN THE <br />OFFICE OF THE CLERK TO THE BOARD <br />OCTOBER 1, 2002 67 <br />
