Frank Coffey spoke on behalf of the Taxpayers Association Board of Indian <br />River County and felt strongly that the funding for this purchase had not been budgeted <br />and should not be allocated. He mentioned attending the Budget hearings for this fiscal <br />year and noted that several agencies had been chastised at the Budget hearings for <br />requesting funding not previously budgeted. He specifically quoted figures relating to <br />the current tourism decline; the State's revisions to their budget in the upcoming <br />Legislative meetings; and the very expensive purchase of the new voting system. COFFEY' S REMARKS IS ON FILE WITH THE BACKUP FOR TODAY'S <br />MEETING.) <br />Jim Egan stated that the Marine Resources Council is very interested in this <br />project and supports the concept. They will be glad to assist the County in finding <br />alternate sources of funding, perhaps associated with the Scenic Highway funding. <br />Chairman Ginn reiterated that the Board is conceptually approving the purchase <br />with the hope we will be able to find the money. The project will come back for another <br />vote. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Adams, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Stanbridge, the <br />Board unanimously conceptually approved the <br />purchase of the Rodney Kroegel parcel at a price <br />of $400,000 (or the approved appraised value, <br />whichever is less) conditioned upon Planning staff <br />and Budget staff finding funds under the sources <br />described in the memorandum (other than <br />OCTOBER 23, 2001 of r' f <br />-98- <br />
