She stated that many developers clear out these invasive plants but there is no requirement <br />to keep the land cleared. She asked that the County consider a packet of information for <br />new property owners such as is supplied by the City of Sebastian. She asked the Board to <br />table this item until after the upcoming talk scheduled by Environmental Planning before the <br />Audubon Society and invited them to also speak to the Florida Native Plant Society at their <br />February meeting. <br />Richard Baker, 522 Blue Island Lane, Sebastian, asked for clarification on lots <br />smaller than 1 acre; commercial development; whether grass is being addressed; and whether <br />already platted lands have been considered. He believed that Indian River County needs to <br />have the strongest tree protection ordinance in Florida and asked for more time to investigate <br />the proposals. <br />Peter Robinson, 315 Greytwig Road, defended developers and felt that most ofthem <br />want to save trees as they make the property more valuable. He also emphasized the rights <br />of an owner of property to build on that property. The developers can do their best to save <br />the trees but the owners are ultimately responsible. <br />Bob Johnson, 535 39`h Court SW, also asked for clarification on exemptions for <br />individual property owners having lots of under 1 acre in size which contain a specimen tree. <br />Director Keating responded that if the property is under 1 acre it is exempt. <br />JANUARY 22, 2002 <br />-36- <br />
