as a re -charge area. <br />Director Keating noted that the Canty property is still in the foreclosure process and <br />we are awaiting the decision of the Court. <br />Chairman Macht thought it important to acquire that property by whatever means we <br />can. He was pleased LAAC recommended moving forward for the benefit <br />environment but also aesthetic relief from the pressures of development. <br />Discussion ensued on the transfer of development rights. Kudos we <br />staff and LAAC for their past acquisition expertise and efforts. <br />Jim Granse, 36 Pine Arbor Lane, noted that the $26 million approve <br />referendum is still not fully spent. He was opposed to additional millions <br />referendum. He stated that it is typical of what is going on in this count <br />understood the sales tax for the next 5 years has already been spent. Then h <br />90% of the land purchased has State attachments and we cannot make a move <br />not only the <br />extended to <br />in the 1992 <br />der another <br />and he also <br />asserted that <br />til the State <br />okays it. The average person in the county has no idea what is being done w lth the money. <br />Commissioner Neuberger pointed out that last year the LAAC put toget her a brochure <br />telling what properties had been purchased. <br />Dr. Richard Baker, LAAC chairman, noted that Mr. Granse (a member of LAAC) <br />voted against the recommendation along with one other member. He estimated that for our <br />$26 million we purchased approximately $50 million dollars in property by partnering with <br />the State. Practically every purchase has been a 1 -to -1 match by the State. He recounted <br />that Mr. DeBlois made a great presentation at the last meeting about what other counties are <br />doing. He presented the dollar amounts other counties in Florida are requesting which are <br />much higher than our $26 million. He stated there is $3 billion dollars available in the <br />Florida Forever Program that will be spent in the next 10 years. He thought we needed to <br />move quickly to compete with our neighboring counties and tap into that Stage money. He <br />November 4, 2003 <br />31 <br />
