11.B.2. EDACS (ENHANCED DIGITAL ACCESS
ATIONS SYSTEM) - PURCHASE OF
YEAR SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT AND
INSTALLATION FOR THE 800 MHZ RADIO SYSTEM -
COMMUNICATIONS INTERNATIONAL
The Board reviewed a Memorandum of December 7 , 2001:
TO: Honorable Board of County Commissioners
THROUGH: James E. Chandler, County Administrator
FROM: John King, Director
Department of Eme gency Services
DATE: December 7, 2001
SUBJECT: Purchase of a One -Year Software License Agreement and Installation for
the 800 MHz Radio System
It is respectfully requested that the information contained herein be given formal
consideration by the Board of County Commissioners at its regular meeting of
December 18, 2001,
DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS:
The Board of County Commissioners approved the purchase of the 800 MHz radio
system in December 1995. Integral to that purchase was the inclusion of a five (5) year
"backbone" software agreement. It was understood that the radio system required
periodic maintenance upgrades to the system's infrastructure. The software license
agreement obligated Ericsson to provide enhancements and corrections to the existing
features for all of the EDACS backbone and radio components. It also assured the
County that any new generation radios, hand-held or mobile units, would seamlessly
integrate into our communications network.
The five (5) year software agreement is expiring, and staff budgeted for a one (1) year
software license agreement.
DECEMBER 18, 2001
-87-
rr1 ; „
FLI
