COMMISSIONER ADAMS - REQUEST FOR OUTSIDE <br />CONSULTANT TO EVALUATE EMERGENCY SERVICES <br />(FIREFIGHTERS AND PARAMEDICS) LEVEL OF SERVICE FROM <br />ESDAC (EMERGENCY SERVICES DISTRICT ADVISORY <br />COMMITTEE) <br />Commissioner Adams reviewed a Memorandum of March 13, 2001: <br />TO: Board of County Commissioners <br />FROM: Fran B. Adams, Chairman, ESDAC <br />DATE March 13, 2001 <br />RE• Recommendation <br />At the last meeting of the Emergency Services District Advisory <br />Committee the recommendation was made to go to an outside <br />consultant to evaluate the level of service in emergency services and <br />make recommendations. <br />The Emergency Services Department will draw up a Request for <br />Proposal to be brought back to the Commission for approval. Thank <br />you <br />• <br />Commissioner Macht questioned whether it was really necessary to go forward with <br />the recommendation of the ESDAC, and Chairman Ginn felt it was a policy decision but <br />asked Administrator Chandler to comment on the need for a consultant. <br />Administrator Chandler recounted that a plan was made last year by staff looking at <br />a fire -based rescue system and our level of services. In that plan, the costs that were <br />generated were not carried forward because it was not cost-effective. That information was <br />relayed to the ESDAC at their first meeting. At the last meeting, there was a presentation <br />by IAFF (International Association of Firefighters) which had a differing view. There was <br />also a presentation by the Teamsters representing the paramedics with still a third view. He <br />thought the committee felt we need an outside consultant because of all the differing views. <br />From a staff perspective, if we are going to pursue looking at our level of services, we <br />March 20, 2001 <br />195 <br />BXi <br />, 667 <br />
