i
i
7G* FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF LA W ENFORCEMENT - SHERIFF'S
DEPARTMENT . FY 2002 ANTI-DRUG ABUSE GRANT FUNDING
CERTIFICATION OF PARTICIPATION- JASON BROWN. CONTACT PF_RNON
The Board reviewed a Memorandum of March 29, 2001:
TO: Members of the Board of County Commissioners
DATE: March 29, 2001
SUBJECT: STATE FISCAL YEAR 2002 ANTI-DRUG ABUSE GRANT FUNDING
CERTIFICATION OF PARTICIPATION
THROUGH: Joseph A. Baird
Assistant County Administrator
-1
FROM: Jason E. Brown
Budget Manager C)
DESCRIPTIONS AND CONDITIONS
Indian River County has been notified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)
Office of Criminal Justice Grants, that $144,226 has been allocated in grant funds for State
Fiscal Year 2002, to fund local anti-drug abuse projects. The letter also requested that the Board
of County Commissioners serve as the coordinating unit of government in applying for these
funds. The Substance Abuse Advisory Council will be soliciting for and receiving grant
applications, as well as evaluating those applications and recommending to the Board what
projects to fund and their funding levels. The Substance Abuse Advisory Council's
recommendations will be brought to the Board for approval in May.
The grant will continue to be funded 75% from the state and 25% from the county. The
budgetary impact on the county will not exceed 550,000, since staff has requested all matching
funds for the 2001/2002 fiscal year to be made by the grant applicants rather than the Board of
County Commissioners. The Board of County Commissioners would have to match the
Substance Abuse Council portion since the grant requirement recommended that the Board of
County Commissioners set up the council to administer the grant.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners accept the invitation to serve as the
coordinating unit of government in the FDLE Anti -Drug Abuse Grant Program and authorize the
Board Chairman to sign the Certification of Participation naming Jason E. Brown, Budget
Manager, as the contact person.
APDL io, Zooi 17 I'U 00 2 2
-27-
