AICP <br />Chief, Environmental Plannme <br />DATE: April 4. 2001 <br />RE: Request for Approval of Agreement to Purchase a Conservation Easement as Cost - <br />Share of Federal Acquisition of the western Lier Tract Adjacent to the Pelican Island <br />National Wildlife Refuge <br />It is requested that the data herein presented be given formal consideration by the Board of County <br />Commissioners at its regular meeting of April 10. 2001. <br />1) Mae OR I W I raWWWORN 1110• <br />On April 6, 1999, the Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution supporting federal acquisition <br />of Lier Groves and other properties on north Jungle Trail as a buffer to the Pelican Island National Wildlife <br />Refuge (PfNWR). Since that time, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has succeeded in purchasing <br />a number of the properties for inclusion into the refuge. The FNVS has been working with The Conservation <br />Fund (TCF), a non-profit corporation, to facilitate the acquisitions. <br />APRIL 10, 2001 <br />-65- <br />
