<br /> to Sebastian Inlet would be wonderful , but there is also an incredible amount of land on the
<br /> mainland to preserve . Many people are not interested in preserving anything west of the
<br /> 71lagoon and he will not stand for that nor should the Commissioners . If conservation lands
<br /> on the mainland are not bought, future generations will not have these environmentally
<br /> sensitive lands . He felt it would be fair to set aside $ 5 . 2 million for the islands and assured
<br /> the Board that the LAAC will not start buying land left and right . If necessary , he would
<br /> support another bond referendum . He urged the Commissioners to continue negotiating but
<br /> not spend more than the appraised value ,
<br /> Commissioner Macht reminded everyone that the LAAC j ust makes recommendations
<br /> to the Board of County Commissioners ,
<br /> Frank Coffey , 1335 River Ridge Drive , reviewed the history of LAAC and the first
<br /> bond issue for environmental lands , He thought LAAC had done a good job and obviously
<br /> Lost Tree islands has taken a lot of their time . It appeared to him the Board was being asked
<br /> to forget about the LAAC and take matters into their own hands to decide about purchasing
<br /> the islands . He believed LAAC should be given the opportunity to do their evaluation and
<br /> make their recommendation . If the Board were to decide without that benefit, then there is
<br /> no need for the LAAC .
<br /> Bob Volkert, 4551 Pebble Bay South , Indian River Shores , thought the important
<br /> issue was that this is a "high stakes poker game " . No one knows the value of the islands , but
<br /> by setting aside funds , we are showing we mean business and want to negotiate ,
<br /> Toni Robinson , 1111 Indian Mound Trail , a member of the LAAC , advised that
<br /> LAAC had voted to recommend that the guide be updated to reflect the goals of the new
<br /> Florida Forever program , the State funding mechanism that followed the P2000 program .
