work on the Wabasso Causeway project. He looked forward to working with the County on <br />waterways assistance projects and will welcome their phone calls. He presented a <br />ceremonial check for $120,000, but the actual total from the District was about $140,000. <br />Mark Crosley added that over the last 10 years, FIND has given a little over one <br />million dollars for about $2.3 million in waterway projects in Indian River County. He <br />commented it has been a pleasure working with our wonderful staff and looks forward to <br />working with us in the future. <br />Commissioners mentioned different projects in praising FIND as being a wonderful <br />partner. <br />5.C. PRESENTATION BY RECREATION DEPARTMENT <br />REGARDING GRAND OPENING OF THE GIFFORD POOL <br />Pat Callahan, Recreation Director, was excited about this Gifford Pool being the <br />first public swimming pool in unincorporated Indian River County. She told of all the <br />special features for all ages found there. She introduced Joan Woodhouse and Nancy <br />Johnson, two local children advocates, who raised the bulk of the $1.870 million <br />construction costs. <br />Joan Woodhouse, a volunteer, told how the private sector and public sector <br />collaborated to benefit the community and make this dream some true. She invited everyone <br />to the July 14th grand opening. The fun and recreation this facility will provide will enhance <br />the lives of many people. She chronologized the fund raising efforts and the resulting $1.87 <br />million raised. The fund raising efforts will continue until the remaining $75,000 is raised. <br />She spoke of the County's role in this project also and credited many individuals and groups <br />for their help in this wonderful addition to the county. <br />Sue Hanson, the Gifford Pool complex facility manager, presented shirts to the <br />Commissioners and invited everyone in the county to attend the grand opening.
