Kathleen Ross, 8425 58th Avenue, asked Mr. Boling to explain in layman terms how <br />this would affect her home. <br />Director Boling specified there would be no change to Lateral G canal ,and whatever <br />vegetation is there now will remain. On the other side of the canal, there will be a 25' wide <br />buffer with a berm and hedge with tall and shorter trees planted along the buffer. Then there <br />would be rear yard setbacks and homes on a lot width of 75 feet. <br />Joseph Schulke, Schulke, Bittle & Stoddard, the engineer for the project, advised he <br />would be happy to answer any questions. In response to Commissioner Neuberger, he <br />estimated the cost of homes would be around $150,000. <br />It was determined that no one else wished to be heard and the Chairman closed the <br />public hearing. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Lowther, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Adams, to approve staff's <br />recommendation. <br />Under discussion, Vice Chairman Ginn could not support the motion because there <br />were not enough tradeoffs and it will increase our density. She believed the County needs <br />to continually review the PD process to maximize open space, conserve natural features, <br />incorporate recreational facilities and a mix of use. She also wanted to see stricter PD <br />regulations when giving waivers. She did not want to see Indian River County become like <br />South Florida. <br />Mr. Schulke asked to address Vice Chairman Ginn's comments. He specified that <br />the developer has set aside approximately 2.5 acres for recreation. They have committed to <br />having docks (for fishing, remote control boats, small boats without engines) and there will <br />August 19, 2003 <br />14 <br />
