When presented to the <br /> Board staff did indicate as part of the backup that "as work progresses , unexpected and <br /> unforeseen conditions may occur. ' <br /> As indicated in the memorandum from Building and Grounds Superintendent, Lynn Williams , <br /> unforeseen conditions in the form of faulty conduit and wiring with rain water resulted in a cross <br /> circuit between a low voltage wire and a standard 120 volt wire causing damage to the low <br /> voltage components . In as much as we are making improvements to existing facilities within the <br /> occupied jail facilities , Siemens was directed to proceed under a time and materials directive as <br /> provided for within the agreement . <br /> The attached change order is for 56 , 850 and is reflective of 51 , 034 in materials and $ 5 , 816 in <br /> labor charges . <br /> RECOMMENDATION : <br /> In light of the cause of damage, and the need to correct damages equipment and replace the <br /> faulty wiring within an occupied correctional facility, staff recommends the Board ' s approval of <br /> Change Order # 1 as submitted. <br /> ON MOTION by Commissioner Adams , <br /> SECONDED by Commissioner Stanbridge , the <br /> Board unanimously approved Change Order No . 1 <br /> with Siemens Building Technologies , Inc . , as <br /> recommended by staff. <br /> CHANGE ORDER WILL BE ON FILE IN THE <br /> OFFICE OF THE CLERK TO THE BOARD <br /> WHEN EXECUTED AND RECEIVED <br /> 3 <br /> SEPTEMBER 18 , 2001 <br /> - 17 - <br />
