The funds from the 911 fee will be utilized for staff maintenance of the data base, three (3) call <br />taker positions, operating expenditures, CAD system, capital outlay, and a contingency fund to <br />ensure the integrity of the system of timely direct emergency personnel so that the protection of <br />lives and property can be assured. <br />If approved by the Board of County Commissioners, the Resolution will be forwarded to <br />BellSouth so that the fee will remain at the same rate as the past year with an effective date of <br />October 1, 2002. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends approval of the resolution re -authorizing and imposing the E911 surcharge <br />with a $.50 fee for FY 2002/2003. <br />ATTACHMENTS: <br />Proposed resolution imposing E911 fee <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Adams, SECONDED BY <br />Commissioner Ginn, the Board unanimously adopted <br />Resolution No. 2002-063 providing for the establishment of a <br />countywide "E911" telephone fee to pay for system charges, <br />providing for severability, providing for inclusion in the Indian <br />River County Administrative Code, and providing for an <br />effective date. <br />RESOLUTION - 2002-063 <br />RESOLUTION OF THE INDIAN RIVER COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A <br />COUNTYWIDE "E911" TELEPHONE FEE TO PAY FOR SYSTEM CHARGES; <br />PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR INCLUSION IN THE <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY ADMINIS IRATIVE CODE AND PROVIDING FOR AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature enacted Section 365.171, Florida Statutes, entitled <br />"The Florida Emergency Telephone Act," to permit the imposition of a "911" fee on all residential <br />and business telephone lines; and <br />WHEREAS, this fee may be used to pay for all charges assessed to the Countywide "911" <br />emergency telephone system; and <br />September 3, 2002 <br />106 <br />• <br />
