O'Steen, Sheriff and Douglas Baker, <br />Clerk. <br />Minutes of February 2nd regular meeting were read and approved on Motion of <br />Commissioner Waddell, seconded by Commissioner Watts and carried. <br />Minutes of special meeting of February 18th were read and approved -on -Motion of <br />Commissioner Hamilton, seconded by Commissioner Warren and carried. <br />Sherman -N. Smith, Jr., attorney, reported that the State would put up caution <br />signs on Road 60 regarding deepwater <br />on each side <br />of the <br />road. <br />Bond of Supervisor of <br />Registration <br />and Elections <br />in the sum of $500.00 for Mrs. <br />Rosemary Richey with the Home Indemnity <br />Company as <br />surety <br />was approved. <br />A letter was received <br />from Dr. Dame <br />of the <br />Florida State Board of Health stating <br />that Dr. C. A. Pigford was unable to <br />accept the position <br />of County Health Officer for Indian <br />River County. A letter also was received to this effect from Dr. Pigford, <br />On Motion of Commissioner Hamilton, seconded by Commissioner Watts and carried, <br />Douglas Baker, Clerk, was instructed to advise the Indian River Citrus Bank that Jack T. McCown <br />County Agent, was authorized to issue checks on and to be in charge of the Fair and 4-9 Club <br />account. <br />Mr. Dowld MacDonald and other members representing the Roseland Men's Club, <br />appeared before the Board with regards to getting the road repaired and the Board assured them <br />that the work on the road would begin not later than May 1st. <br />Mr., Roy Hilliard and his attorney, Angus Sumner of Fort Pierce, appeared before <br />1 <br />the Board and stated that the roof and paint was not satisfactory on the building constructed <br />by the County on U. S. 91 and requested that something be done about it. <br />A committee consisting of,Commissio-hers Graves, Waddell and Warren and E. E. <br />Carter, Road and Bridge Superintendent, was appointed to investigate the matter. <br />At the request of Mr. Robert F. Lloyd a plat of Tropicolony, Inc. 92, was tenta- <br />tively approved on Motion of Commissioner Waddell, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton and <br />carried. 11 <br />Councilman Sweatt of the City of Sebastian, appeared befdre the Board and stated <br />that a special meeting of the Council was held on March 1, 1954 and after considerable dis- <br />cussion for and against the split highway, it was moved by Chairman Taylor, seconded by Council- <br />man Chesser that the City of Sebastian recommend to the County Commissioners the Split highway. <br />The chair then called for a roll call vote on same which was as follows:, Yeas - Sweatt, <br />Sembler, Taylor and Chesser. Not voting - Ellingsen. A letter to this effect signed by E. C. <br />Peterson, City Clerk, dated March 9, 1954, confirming the foregoing action is on file in the <br />Clerk's office. <br />Mr. Earl Roberts and Mr. Emory DeVane of Sebastian, appeared before the Board and <br />presented a petition which was signed by 186 petitioners for retaining the present location of <br />U. S. nl highway, signed by 19 petitioners against retaining the present highway , and signed <br />by 12 petitioners who had no choice in the matter but were willing to go along with the <br />majority. The Board advised both parties that they would give serious consideration to their <br />requests and views in the matter which would be further considered by them and with the State <br />Road Department, <br />Mr. H. E. Kjorsvick of Wabasso appeared.before the Board and was given tentative <br />approval as to his plat. <br />Mr. Homer Fletcher, Tax Assessor, appeared before the Board and requested <br />
