Engineer shall make the final decision as to the acceptability of the well point <br /> system or any part thereof. <br /> ' Where necessary , pea gravel or graded sand shall be used in <br /> conjunction with the well points as they are installed in insure <br /> continuous pumping in the dewatering of fine material . <br /> The cost of dewatering shall be included in the various unit prices bid under <br /> water main installation. <br /> ' 7 . Disposal of Water from Excavations - All water pumped or bailed from <br /> trenches or other excavations shall be conveyed in a proper manner to a <br /> ' suitable point of discharge by the Contractor at his own expense . <br /> The Contractor shall provide for the disposal of water removed from <br /> ' excavations in a manner that will not cause injury to public health, private <br /> or public property, any portion of the work completed or in progress , the <br /> surface of the streets, or cause any impediments to the reasonable use of the <br /> site by other Contractors . The Contractor shall be responsible for complying <br /> with all the local regulations and those of the Department of Environmental <br /> Regulation regarding pollution of waterways . Should the size of Contractor' s <br /> ' dewatering equipment, or the quantity of disposed water, or the method of <br /> disposal require a St. Johns' River Water Mgmt. District permit, the <br /> Contractor shall obtain such permit at no additional expense to the Owner and <br /> ' with no additional time added to the Contract. The Contractor shall take <br /> special precautions to eliminate any odor problems resulting from the discharge <br /> of sulfide water, such as the use of submerged discharge outlets and overflow <br /> ' basins . <br /> 8 . Preparation of Trench - Trenching as shown on the Plan details shall be <br /> standard for this project. The trenches shall be constructed by excavating <br /> to the depth indicated on the Plans . The trenches shall then be manually <br /> shaped to fit the bell and lower quadrant of the pipe barrel . <br /> Mechanical excavation shall be limited to provide an undisturbed trench <br /> ' bottom for the lower quadrant and bell of the pipe . Final excavation shall <br /> require hand shaping for placement of the pipe . If mechanical overcutting <br /> occurs, the pipe bedding shall consist of four (4) inches of washed and graded <br /> ' sand or crushed rock on undisturbed soil . <br /> C . Laving of Pipe <br /> ' All pipe , fittings and valves shall be installed according to AWWA <br /> Specification C600 for ductile iron pipe or AWWA M23 for P .V . C . pipe . Prior to <br /> installation, all pipe and appurtenances shall be examined for damage and defects . <br /> Under no circumstances shall defective pipe be installed . All lumps , blisters and <br /> excess coating materials shall be removed from the socket and plain ends of each <br /> pipe . While being placed in the trench, care shall be taken to prevent foreign material <br /> from entering the pipe . <br /> CAD own Ioad\techspec-0250Ldoc SC501 - 8 <br />
