The chlorine solution shall <br /> remain in the pipeline for no less than 24 hours . <br /> Co Following the chlorination period, all treated water shall be flushed from the <br /> lines at their extremities and replaced with water from the existing water <br /> system . Bacteriological sampling and analysis of the replacement water shall <br /> then be made in the presence of the Engineer in full accordance with the <br /> AWWAManual C-651 . Passing bacteriological test results shall be remitted to <br /> the Engineer within one week of testing . All sample points shall be <br /> sampled on the same day. The Contractor will be required to re-chlorinate and <br /> retest any non-passing segment. The line shall not be placed in service until <br /> the requirements of the State and County Public Health Department are met. <br /> D . Special disinfecting procedures shall be used in connections to existing mains, <br /> and where the method outlined above is not practical . <br /> E . The Contractor shall make all arrangements necessary with an independent <br /> commercial laboratory approved by the Department of Health and <br /> Rehabilitative Service (HRS) for the collection and examination of samples of <br /> water from disinfected water mains . These samples shall be examined for <br /> compliance with HRS requirements . Sampling shall be made daily and <br /> continuously until two successive examinations are found satisfactory. Should <br /> any examination be found unsatisfactory, the line shall be flushed and <br /> disinfected again. Certified copies of all laboratory analyses shall be provided to <br /> the Engineer within one week after testing. The cost of all sampling, <br /> flushing, and disinfecting shall be included in the contract price and no <br /> additional charge shall be made to the Owner for this work.
