d. In general, at least one test for maximum dry density/optimum
moisture content shall be performed on a representative sample of
each inherently different material to be used for compacted backfill
or embankment fill . For material of uniform composition and
textural class , a minimum of two test locations per mainline run
between manholes shall be performed.
e. As a minimum, in-place density tests shall be performed at the rate
of on the compacted backfill and shall be taken in one foot
intervals beginning at one foot above the pipe and ending at the
final grade . Test locations shall be as directed by the Engineer
or his authorized representative . If any test results are
unsatisfactory, the Contractor shall re-excavate and recompact
the backfill, at his expense, to the extent directed by the
Engineer until the required compaction is obtained .
f.
