3 . 05 MAINTENANCE <br /> ' A. The safety system shall be maintained in its original g nal condition . The Contractor shall take <br /> all necessary precautions to ensure that the safety systems are not damaged during their <br /> ' use . If, at any time during its use, a safety system is damaged, personnel shall be <br /> immediately removed from the trench or excavated area and the safety system repaired . <br /> The Contractor shall take all necessary precautions to ensure that no excessive loads are <br /> imposed on the excavation. <br /> ' 3 . 06 INSPECTION <br /> A. The Contractor shall make a daily inspection of the trench safety system to ensure that the <br /> system meets OSHA requirements . Daily inspections shall be made by competent <br /> personnel . If evidence of possible cave-ins or slides is apparent, all work in the trench <br /> shall cease until the necessary precautions have ben taken to safeguard personnel entering <br /> the trench . The Contractor shall maintain permanent records of all daily inspections . <br /> 3 . 07 REMOVAL <br /> ' A. Backfilling and removal of trench supports shall progress together from <br /> g bottom of trench <br /> upwards . The Contractor shall remove no braces or trench supports until all personnel <br /> ' have evacuated the trench. The trench shall be backfilled to within five (5) feet of natural <br /> ground prior to removal of the entire trench safety system .
