5. DEWATERING <br /> A . All water encountered during excavation shall be promptly and completely <br /> removed to a depth below the exposed excavation surface sufficient to <br /> provide a dry working surface. The excavation shall be kept dry until the work to be <br /> built or placed therein has been completed as specified . Dewatering shall be done in <br /> a manner that will not cause sloughing or caving of the excavation walls . Water <br /> from said dewatering shall be disposed of in a manner as will not result in <br /> violations of State water quality standards in receiving waters , nor cause injury to <br /> public health nor to public or private property, nor to the work completed or in <br /> progress . Any and all damage caused by dewatering shall be promptly repaired by <br /> the Contractor at no cost to the Owner. The receiving point for water from said <br /> operation shall be approved by the applicable regulatory agency and the <br /> Engineer. The Contractor is responsible for obtaining all required permits and <br /> any other approval necessary . <br /> 6 . REMOVAL OF MUCK, ROCK AND OTHER UNSUITABLE MATERIAL <br /> A. All muck, rock , clay, marl, gravel , boulders, heterogeneous fill material and any <br /> other organic or unsuitable " materials of excavation" encountered under pavement <br /> areas , structures and utilities shall be excavated and removed. Also any <br /> " unforeseen obstacles " such as buried trees or timbers , abandoned utilities, <br /> metal objects , concrete masses , or any other type of debris encountered <br /> shall be removed . <br /> Be Stripping shall be accomplished to clean in-place sand or other suitable <br /> material as approved by the Engineer. Removal of unsuitable material within areas <br /> which are to receive footings, slabs or other foundations shall be completed <br /> for the full area under such structures and to ten feet minimum outside the <br /> maximum perimeter. Where pavement is to be placed, said removal shall <br /> include all area under the surface and extend to the outside of shoulders and under <br /> sidewalks and bike paths, or as directed by the Engineer. <br /> C . All roots, stumps , logs , limbs, timbers, boulders, or any material which is not <br /> suitable for backfill material shall be removed from the site promptly and <br /> excavated and disposed of by the Contractor at his expense . <br /> D . All " materials of excavation" and " unforeseen obstacles " will be considered as <br /> incidental to construction and no additional compensation will be allowed . <br /> C : \ Down1oad \ techspec - 02202 . doc 02202 - 2 <br />
