5 . AIR ENTRAINMENT <br /> ' A. Air entrainment is required and shall be maintained between 3 and 6 percent <br /> considered as an optimum. Concrete showing more than 6 percent may be <br /> ' rejected . <br /> 6 . ADMIXTURES <br /> ' A . Admixtures other than for air entrainment shall not be used without the <br /> specific written approval of the Engineer. <br /> 7. FORMS <br /> ' A. Forms shall be built to provide a neat and workmanlike finished job . The <br /> forms shall be mortar-tight and of sufficient strength material to prevent any <br /> bulging or sagging from true line and grade and to withstand vibrating . Any <br /> form ties shall be removed to a depth , of at least 14 /2 inches, the holes <br /> reamed out large enough to be adequately patched and the hole filled with <br /> sand cement mortar. <br /> ' 8 . PLACEMENT AND INSPECTION <br /> A. The Contractor shall give the Engineer sufficient advance notice of his intent to <br /> pour concrete to permit inspection of the forms, placement of reinforcing steel, <br /> and equipment for mixing, transporting and placing of the concrete . No concrete <br /> ' will be placed prior to completion of the form work and placing of the <br /> reinforcing to the Engineer' s satisfaction. No concrete shall be placed unless <br /> an adequate vibrator and adequate provisions for curing are on hand. Concrete <br /> ' test cylinders will be made by the Engineer' s representative at random and <br /> at any time there is doubt about the quality of the concrete . Failure of the <br /> concrete to come up to design strength will be cause for rejection and <br /> ' replacement of the structure . <br /> Be Every effort shall be made to obtain a water tight and durable concrete free <br /> ' from voids, rock pockets and the like . Should defects occur, they will be called to <br /> the Engineer's attention and repaired in accordance with his directive or, if <br /> extensive replaced. <br /> ' C . Concrete finish on n exposed surfaces shall be as designated gated by the Engineer. <br /> ' 9 . REINFORCING <br /> ' A. All reinforcing steel shall be fabricated from new billet steel and shall unless <br /> otherwise noted conform to ASTM designation A615 , Grade 40 . All bars shall be <br /> securely tied in place with soft iron wire, 16 gage or heavier. No steel chairs <br /> ' will be permitted. Unless otherwise noted all bars shall have 2 inches of concrete <br /> cover. All bends shall be in accordance with the A. C . I .
