F'10 <br />APRIL 20s 195(t - <br />A Special Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br />Florida was held at the Courthouse, Vero Beach, Florida at 11:00 o'clock A. M., Friday, April <br />20th, 1956. Present, were Chairman W. C. Graves, Jr., H. C. Watts, J. J. P. Hamilton and <br />Aubrey L. Waddell. Absent was Allison Barren. Also present were E. E. Carter, Road and Bridge <br />Superintendent, Sam T. Joyce, Sheriff, Sherman N. Smith, Jr., Attorney and Douglas Baker, <br />Clerk, <br />Chairman Graves stated this meeting was called for the purpose of the proposed <br />Courthouse addition and such other business as might be brought before the Board. <br />It was moved by Commissioner Hamilton, seconded by Commissioner Waddell and <br />carried that Robert Frazier be employed to supervise the construction of the addition to the <br />Courthouse according to the plans and specifications prepared by the architect Wm. G. Taylor, <br />with the understanding that the work would be done by the County, and that the County would <br />advertise for bids and purchase all materials needed, thereby receiving the benefit of any <br />discounts on such materials. It was also decided that Mr. Frazier is to receive $600.00 per <br />month over a period of three months for his supervision. <br />The Board discussed the matter of placing the five (5) voting machines in the <br />several precincts on a trial basis for the primary elections and upon the suggestion and <br />recommendation of Jim Landon, Representative of the Shoupe Voting Machine Company, and also <br />in order to comply with the law in this regard, it was moved by Commissioner Waddell, seconded <br />by Commissioner Hamilton and carried that three voting machines would be placed in Precinct <br />04 and two in Precinct 85, with the understanding that all voters would use the machine in- <br />stead of paper ballots. <br />COUNTY RESQLUTION-ON"USE ,- <br />OF <br />80% SEVENTH CENT GAS TAX <br />AND <br />OTHER SECONDARY ROAD FUNDS <br />YEAR 1956 - 1957 <br />County of INDIAN RIVER <br />Commissioner Waddell introduced the following Resolution and moved its adopt- <br />X400.9A.s, follows., to -wit: _ <br />IN <br />I �f <br />-WHEREAS, under Chapter 26,321 of the Extraordinary Session of 1949# -known -as <br />the "Secondary Road Assistance Act of 1949", and Section 139 of the Florida Highway Code of <br />1955, the State Road Department will receive 80% of the proceeds of this county's pro -rata <br />share of the Seventh Cent gasoline tax, to be used as prescribed by regulations of the said <br />Department within this County, as requested by resolution of this Board of County Commissioners <br />and approved by the Department for one or more of the following purposes: Construction, re- <br />construction, maintenance and repair of State roads and bridges, the lease or purchase of <br />bridges connecting State roads, the acquisition of rights-of-way for State roads, and the re- <br />duction of road and bridge indebtedness; and <br />WHEREAS, the State Road Department has requested this County Board to recommend <br />the purpose for which, and the roads on which, this County's 80% surplus gas tax and Federal <br />Aid Secondary allocations should be spent for construction and improvement; and <br />WHEREAS, the State Road Department requires this information so that it may be <br />considered in the preparation of the Annual Budget of the State Road Department; and <br />0 <br />1 <br />0 <br />• <br />1 <br />1 <br />0 <br />
