<br />THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS of Indian River County, Florida, met at the
<br />Courthouse in Vero Beach, Florida in a regular meeting at 9:00 o'clock A. M. November 6, 1956.
<br />All members were present. Also present were S. N. Smith, Jr., Attorney, Sam T. Joyce, Sheriff,',
<br />E. E. Carter, Road & Bridge Superintendent and Douglas Baker, Clerk.
<br />Minutes of September 4th and October 2nd, regular meetings, were read and the
<br />same were approved upon Motion made by Commissioner Hamilton, seconded by Commissioner Waddell
<br />and carried.
<br />Homer Fletcher, Tax Assessor appeared before the Board and submitted a number
<br />of requests to cancel or adjust the valuation of real or personal property which had been
<br />extended on the 1956 County Tax Roll. The corrections were authorized by Homer C. Fletcher
<br />Tax Assessor, and approved by the Board of County Commissioners on the following parcels of
<br />real estate:
<br />Lots 7 & 8, Blk 1, Replat of Elks 3, 4, 7 of Knight's Add. to Bdgewood.
<br />Lot 22, Blk 15, Vero Beach Estates
<br />Lots 5 & 6, Blk 4, Veromar Sub.
<br />Lot 7, Porpoise Point Sub.
<br />Lots, 8, 9, 102 Blk 5, Sunnyside Park Sub.
<br />Sam Joyce, Sheriff, told the Board he would need some furniture and equipment
<br />including desk, table and chairs, and the Board appointed a furniture and fixture committee
<br />consisting of Sam Joyce, E. E. Carter and Douglas Baker, to determine what equipment was
<br />needed and to purchase same.
<br />Upon Motion of Commissioner McCullers, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton and
<br />carried, the Board agreed to provide tile floors for the new addition to the Courthouse at an
<br />approximate cost of Twelve Hundred Dollars.
<br />The Board authorized Sam Joyce to deduct good time off on prisoners when, in his
<br />opinion, it was advisable to do so.
<br />County Agricultural Agent, McCullars advised the Board he needed a full time
<br />secretary and that the State would pay $75.00 per month toward a salary of $200.00. Upon
<br />Motion of Commissioner Waddell, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton and carried, the Board
<br />agreed to pay $125.00 per month toward the salary.
<br />The right of way contract was returned executed by the State Road Department
<br />on the South Gifford Road and filed with the clerk.
<br />Mr. Boring of the firm of Merriman, Boring and Sutherland, appeared before the
<br />Board and offered a 15 acre tract of land in the Oslo area to the County for a public park.
<br />Commissioner Waddell and Road and Bridge Superintendent E. E. Carter were appointed as a
<br />committee to look over the tract offered by Brotman & Associates through Mr. Boring and report
<br />back to the Board.
<br />Mrs. Anne Christensen, County Welfare Case Worker, appeared before the Board
<br />and gave a report of her activities for the month of October and same was ordered filed by
<br />the Clerk. Mrs. Christensen stated that she was going to need help for the months of November
<br />and December and the Board authorized her to get someone.
