Sampling shall include pre- and <br /> post-construction monitoring in the project areas and concurrent sampling of control sites. <br /> Monitoring shall be conducted in the summer following project construction and for two subsequent <br /> years, for a total of three years of post-construction monitoring. Part of the hardbottom monitoring <br /> shall be also conducted on the mitigation area, using the same methodology as for hardbottom <br /> communities, and shall include statistical treatments and appropriate controls. The monitoring of <br /> turbidity levels in the project area during construction, although is a part of Water Quality <br /> Monitoring, is also considered to be a part of biological monitoring, because turbidity is the primary <br /> physical parameter expected to impact marine habitats. Towed underwater video combined with <br /> diver observations shall be conducted over the entire south borrow area prior to dredging to verify <br /> that no areas of hard bottom or potential sea grass areas are present.
