n <br />U <br />C <br />0 <br />1 <br />0 <br />1 <br />1 <br />40 <br />All equipment necessary for the proper construction of this work shall be on <br />the project, in first class working condition, and shall have been approved by the engineer be� <br />fore construction is started. <br />Before any bituminous material is applied, all loose material, dust, dirt, <br />caked clay and foreign material which might prevent proper bond with -the existing surface <br />will be moved to the shoulders for the full width of the application. No bituminous material <br />shall be applied when temperature of the air is less than 50 degrees F. or when in the opinion <br />of the engineer, weather conditions or the condition of the surface is unsuitable. An approx- <br />imate 2 week curing period for seal coat shall be given before the surface course is applied. <br />The asphalt shall be applied at a temperature of between 275 degrees and 325 degrees F. The <br />exact temperature shall be such as will ensure uniform distribution and shall be designated <br />by the engineer. <br />Immediately.after spreading and dragging the cover material, the entire sur- <br />face must be rolled with a 5 ton to 8 ton pneumatic traffic roller. The rolling in all cases <br />shall begin within 30 minutes after spreading of the material. Rolling shall begin at the <br />edges and progress to the center of the surface uniformly lapping each preceding track and <br />covering thoroughly the entire surface. <br />e.3) Double Bituminous Surface Treatment <br />This wearing surface to consist of a double application of bituminous material <br />covered with a double application of cover material, applied on a previously prepared base <br />with seal coat in accordance with the specifications. The bituminous material shall be <br />asphalt grade AC -15 or an asphalt material which has had specific approval. The cover maters <br />shall be State Road Specification Rock Grade II and the.second course cover material shall be <br />State Road Specification Rock Grade 15, or approved slag material. The first application of <br />bituminous material shall be from .18 to .25 gallons per square year and a cover material <br />from .40 to .50 cubic feet per square yard. The second application of bituminous material <br />shall be from .25 to .35 gallons per square yard and the second application of cover material <br />to be from .22 to .25 cubic feet per square yard. <br />All equipment necessary for the proper construction of this work shall be on <br />the project, in forst class working condition, and shall have been approved by the engineer <br />before the construction has started. <br />The surface to be covered shall be swept clean and free from sand, dirt and <br />dust and other deletrious material by means of mechanical road sweepers, hand brooms, and <br />approved mechanical blowers, and shall be free from moisture. The existing seal coat must <br />have an approximate 2 week curing period before the application of the first bituminous coat. <br />No bituminous material shall be applied when the temperature of the air is less than 50 degrees <br />F. or when in the opinion of the engineer, the weather conditions or the condition of the exist <br />ing surface is unsuitable. The asphalt material grade AC -15 shall be applied at a temperature <br />of between 275 degrees and 325 degrees F. The exact temperature shall be such as will ensure <br />uniform distribution and shall be designated by the engineer. <br />
